Now either in academia or privately, the biggest issue concerning books is developing the right discernment for what not to read. It's really serious.

True and Alan Jacobs has some interesting thoughts on this issue in his new book The Pleasures of Reading in an Age of Distraction. Especially good advice for young readers, but helpful for all.
